Senara

Senara Seafood hits the mark ….

senaraI have been wanting to try Senara Seafood on Palm Jumeirah for some time now. One of the main reasons I hadn’t been was that my midweek seafood lunch companion had been away since June.  She is back in town now and as a kind of little celebration, and to quell my seafood addiction we found ourselves sat outside Senara, on what can only be described as a beautiful winter day here in Dubai. The sun was shining and there was a lovely view out onto the sea, with a few luxury yachts bobbing in the man-made harbour.

Senara has a delightful menu which is seafood heavy but not totally dedicated to seafood.  I could quite happily have ordered every single dish listed in their small plates and starters section.  The lobster roll and the grilled prawn, shrimp and avocado cocktail are just two of the reasons I am going to have to return!! Regardless we didn’t order a starter but did order the bread basket with dips, which to our surprise was six hot mini wholemeal rolls with a beetroot and a sun-dried red tomato dip, very nice.  I would have liked to have seen more variety in the bread basket though, maybe some sticks and flat bread too.

Moving onto the main courses, I knew that my food partner would order the posh fish n chips with hand cut chips and tartare sauce,  which meant I had the choice of everything else on the menu, excellent.  As usual I had been on-line and read the menu a few times beforehand so I knew that my dish of choice would be the squid and lobster tagliatelle in a creamy herb sauce.  Up until a few weeks ago I thought tagliatelle was served with a cream sauce, but I was wrong.  In a skills test in a recent episode of Masterchef Professionals, the addition of cream to a tagliatelle is a big no no.

The posh fish n chips were outstandingly good, the batter in particular on the fish was well seasoned, the fish was superbly good. The home-made tartare sauce had a perfect texture and a rich creamy taste. The mushy peas were mushy peas, what can you say about mushy peas really?  they are what they are.  My squid and lobster tagliatelle was a fantastic dish packed with good chunks of lobster and perfectly cooked tender squid.  Packed full of flavour and just the right portion size, too much pasta and that’s you done in for the rest of the day!  The mains menu boasts what sounds like a nice herb crusted piece of cod and a fisherman’s pie along with some other seafood dishes. Don’t panic if you don’t fancy seafood though there are a few good meat options too.  Also on the menu are their ‘buckets’ which contain, shrimp, calamari, scampi or whitebait.  Ideal for sharing I would think.  There is a small selection of desserts, the sticky toffee pudding caught my eye, but alas today we were too full to eat any more.  All in all an excellent dining experience, made all the better by being able to use my Entertainer App.  One more thing, if have a four-legged canine in your family, they are welcome too!!

Sounds good! Senara is one place that I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time too! I would love to try the herb crusted cod or any prawn dishes. Looking forward to visiting while the weather is still cool 🙂
