Nine7One launches their Tapas Friday Brunch …
When an invite dropped into my inbox to visit Nine7One at the Oberoi Dubai Hotel I jumped at the chance. Not only had I not had time to visit the Hotel, though I did try to find it one day and couldn’t, I was intrigued to find out more about their new tapas style Friday brunch. Today under the watchful eye of Chef Dirk and his team, the press and a few food bloggers were invited to sample the delights of this new concept.
The Oberoi Group of hotels which is still owned by the Oberoi family have been in the hospitality industry since the 1930′s, their hands on approach has won them many accolades over the years. I am pretty sure that there isn’t an Indian National in this world who hasn’t dreamt of visiting one of their hotels.
Nine7One, you don’t need a degree to figure out where its name originates from, is the all day dining concept at the Oberoi Dubai. A beautiful light and airy restaurant with a super terrace for those cooler months. The tapas theme is the brainchild of Chef Dirk and his international team of chefs. Whilst we are all aware that tapas are a tradition dish native to Spain the idea can be adapted. Tapas are basically small portions of snack like food. At Nine7One what you will experience is an International culinary journey that will take you literally right around the world. Chef Dirk has basically asked all his Chef’s to prepare a signature dish from their home country, one that reminded them of local life at home.
We started our journey with some absolutely amazing roasted pumpkin and butternut squash soup, with a selection of breads. So good, all the bread is made in-house and it is some of the best bread I have had in any restaurant. Soup over with it was time to check out what all the little stations had on offer. There was an amazing Japanese/Chinese section where fresh tempura was being made and served, along with a great selection of sushi and sashimi. On the Chinese side, there was a large variety of steamed dim sum on offer. I tried the crispy prawn tempura with Japanese mayonnaise, delicious. Moving onto another station a selection of Spanish, Lebanese, Greek and Middle Eastern delights could be found. I found myself with a mini burger with veal cheek tender. This was shortly followed by some quail egg bruschetta, a delightful fish croquette, and some lamb and chicken kebab. The star of the day for me were the two beef dishes. A tiny cube of 72 hour aged Wagyu beef with jus, melted in your mouth!! and the terrahawk beef with roasted seasonal vegetables was amazingly tender.
I am not a huge one for desserts but a baked raspberry yoghurt did catch my eye along with a red velvet cake topped with a beautiful creamy cheese topping. Amazing attention to detail had taken place when setting up the children’s table (all the adults visited it), with everything from a dual white/milk chocolate fountain to a candy floss machine. Mitten was absolutely delighted with it all, and ended up finishing her lunch off with a dish of jelly beans!
We finished our experience enjoying the delights of molecular cookery under the watchful eye of Chef Rajeev. Mitten was bowled over with the frozen raspberry mousse which was made in seconds with the help of some liquid nitrogen. This new concept of dining at Nine7One is going to be a huge success, there is something for everyone. Congratulations to Chef Dirk and your entire team, you well and truly have a new fan, and she is only 9! Thank you
