A bit of Singapore right in the heart of JLT ….
Yes yet another new opening in Jumeirah Lake Towers!! I swear you could dine out every day of the week for a year and still discover something new. Today we paid a visit to the newly opened Merlion’s King. The husband is particularly fond of Singaporean food due to the time he has spent in Singapore over the years.
The outlet itself is not huge, typical of the majority of eateries in JLT. Light, airy and clean with a rather impressive crystal chandelier adorning the centre of the ceiling. I rarely comment about the little appetizers that are served with food but the prawn crackers today definitely deserve a mention, the best I have had in a long long time. Served fresh from the pan, absolutely delightful and very moreish! Merlion’s King has a great compact menu with all our Singaporean favourites. We opted for the butterfly king prawns to start which were the daily special. We all know how much I love my seafood, these butterfly prawns had been coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried, served with a mayo and spring onion dip, they were so tasty!
For main course we had to try the Singapore satay (chicken) and I was just in the mood for some sweet and sour chicken. I made the right choice, the sweet and sour chicken was amazing, tender batter covered crispy fried chicken in sweet and sour sauce with vegetables. Beautiful dish I have to say. The Singapore satay hit the mark though I have to say I thought the chicken skewers could have been a bit bigger, the taste however was perfect. One thing I would like to say is that the presentation of the Singapore satay was beautiful, the white onion was so fresh, stunning. For those of you who are curious about pricing, our entire bill came to just over 150 dhs.
After our meal we were very happy to meet the brains behind Merlion’s King, I think she should have called the outlet Merlion’s Queen I wish you and your team all the luck in the world, you are sitting on a gold mine with Merlion’s King.
