The Arabian Ranches has a little secret ….
In my attempt to uncover new eateries before anyone else, one of my readers told me about a new opening at the Arabian Ranches. Initially I thought that another one of the coffee shops had gone a journey, but no I was wrong. Maison Mathis is in fact a fully licensed restaurant right in the heart of the Arabian Ranches. It officially opened today and we were one of the first people to see what they had to offer.
An absolutely stunning restaurant, clean, light, spacious with big warehouse like ceilings. Everything is black and white which when you support Newcastle United has a nice feel to it. There is a fabulous terrace with views onto the putting green of the Arabian Ranches Golf Club, and a small play area to occupy the little ones. The restaurant is split into four areas, the cafe, the bakery/patisserie, the kitchen and the bar. The Maison Mathis concept hails from Belgium, and you will be happy to hear there is a great selection of Belgian beers available.
The menu, at the moment is small as they are still on a soft opening period. Currently there are a few dishes in each section; vegetarian and vegetables; fish; poultry; beef and petites (side portions). I opted for the Brie Quiche, crunchy seeds and raisin, lettuce heart, sweet mustard in pastry shell. My husband chose the crispy cod, home-made tartar, spiced salad with sourdough bread. Both dishes came with your personal choice of side dish, we chose the Pommes frite; hand-cut and mayonnaise topped (they weren’t they were frozen) and the roasted shallots. All the food was outstandingly good, however the chips were a disappointment, regular readers know how disappointed I get when the hand-cut turns out to be out of a bag. That aside the food was really good. Their beef burger seemed a popular choice among diners today, I shall try that the next time I visit.
We didn’t have a dessert but did bring one home with us. You can buy any cakes, pastries and breads and bring them home, there were some fabulous breads to try too. The entire dining experience today was a very pleasant one indeed. Congratulations to the owners of Maison Mathis, I am pretty sure you have a huge success on your hands. It’s about time the Arabian Ranches and its surrounding areas had a really good eatery on their doorstep. I look forward to seeing your fuller menu in a few months time.
You can find Maison Mathis adjacent to the Arabian Ranches Golf Club. There is more information on their website, and they also have a Facebook page and a Twitter account.
